Newsletter - 7 December

Dear brothers and sisters,

The time of Advent is on its way and Christmas is fast approaching.  Very soon, we will be embracing this very happy time, with celebrations in the church and also, for many of us, with joyful family gatherings and parties.  We can already feel that something is moving inside as we get prepared to celebrate the coming of our Saviour in our world.  Last week, the scriptures were inviting us to stay awake, which is a personal invitation made to each one of us.  What have I done with this invitation since?  Pope Francis’  words on Advent (as per the extract in last week’s newsletter) was asking us to remain awake, alert and vigilant so as to be prepared for His visit.  How do we prepare?

During Advent, the Church invites the faithful to be reconciled to God as we wait for the coming of the Lord.  When we are reconciled with someone, there is something which strengthens the link between the two parties.  The Lord invites us to experience this reconciliation as part of our preparation to welcome Jesus into our hearts at Christmas.

The Parish offers a few opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation during Advent.

1.         There is a holy hour every weekday from 6pm - 7pm in the church where adoration is proposed and we can pray in front of the Blessed Sacrament.  The Sacrament of Reconciliation can be celebrated during this time.

2.         Sacrament of Reconciliation for children and families: To encourage children and their families, we will dedicate two Tuesday evenings, during Advent,  to them, from 6pm - 7pm on 9th  and 16th December.  Children, having made their first confession, will be able to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and be occupied with quiet activities, while the rest of the family will be experiencing the sacrament.

3.         Finally, we will have a special time of adoration and confession on Sunday 21st  December from 3pm - 5pm in the church before the Carol singing at 5pm.

We can ask the Lord to inspire us as to  the best way he wants us to be reconciled with him and with others.

May the Lord bless you and prepare your heart for His coming during this Advent season.
