Why celebrate All Saints’ Day?
Dear friends of Christ the King parish,
The feast of All Saints and Holy Ones invites us to ask ourselves: what is the purpose of saints for God and for humans?
For God, the answer is clear. It's about the joy of welcoming into His kingdom those for whom He sent His Son, who came down from heaven, and the Holy Spirit, "who proceeds from the Father and the Son". These children of God are a sign that salvation is not a utopian ideal but reality.
For the Church on earth and humanity, celebrating saints and holy ones means recognising that God's word put into practice bears abundant fruit. This countless crowd is a sign of the overflowing love of God. The feast of All Saints is an opportunity to give thanks to God ( Luke 17:19) for all those believers, known and unknown, who have lived out the Paschal Mystery of Christ in their lives.
It's also an opportunity for us, the Church of Christ, to ask for the grace of a holy life. The testimony of those who have gone before us shows that it's not an impossible mission! In the joy of knowing this blessed life, let us ask through the intercession of saints and holy ones for the grace to live a life totally guided by God, who has called us all to be saints ( Romans 1:7).
Grace, mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance (Jude 2) and Happy All Saints' Day to all !
