Serving God’s Justice

The almighty God who gives life to the creation, to men and women, desires do open our eyes on what he does by giving us his light when we do not see clearly why we are here, and to set us free when we are paralysed and afflicted by events of life that we may have chosen or not.

This project of the Lord which is the manifestation of his Justice, takes place when he calls a servant that he loves and chooses. He forms him, grasps him by the hand, upholds him and gives him his Spirit. He gives him power and strength to help and support all people weak and traumatised by life. A power not performed with violence but through tenderness, faithfulness, patience, compassion and silence.

When this servant answers the Lord’s call, he accepts to be transformed by God, to be like a tool in his hands so his identity and mission come from God. The servant may pass through troubles, doubts, temptations of failure and even feeling no strength and useless, but if he remembers that his call is from God then God himself becomes his strength and rewards, and shows his glory in him.

So this servant becomes humble accepting to receive from God all he must say and do. He trusts God, he does not refuse everything to him.  As non violent, he accepts all things: humiliations, attacks, dishonour, offenses, exclusion and condemnation, he knows and believes that he is in the hands of God who called him.

The life of this servant becomes an offering, he empties himself to give himself and surrender himself to God and to others, bearing human sufferings which overwhelms him. But he remains  dedicated, docile and obedient to God in silence, until death because he knows what he is doing.

Through him some may see the mysterious presence of God who gives to the faithful servant strength to support the burden of sufferings and they can receive pardon and peace through him. Others may see a loser, a person abandoned by God and a curse.  But God sees his servant, an innocent surrendered person, who prospers and shall be raised, restoring our broken human nature. This is the Lord’s justice for those who believe in him. This is what we celebrate on the Holy Week.
