SEASON OF CREATION 2023

“Let justice and peace flow on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream" Amos 5:24

Inspired by Amos 5:24, Pope Francis has given us the theme for the Season of Creation 2023. This passage speaks of what God desires. That our world should be filled with justice seeking love — a justice that never ends and a love that extends to every part of creation. On behalf of all creation, Christians everywhere are called to live out this life-giving love and to come together, just like tributaries, to form a mighty river of justice and peace.

In his message for the Season of Creation the Pope says, “let us dwell on those heartbeats: our own and those of our mothers and grandmothers, the heartbeat of creation and the heartbeat of God. Today they do not beat in harmony; they are not harmonized in justice and peace. Too many of our brothers and sisters are prevented from drinking from that mighty river. Let us heed our call to stand with the victims of environmental and climate injustice, and to put an end to the senseless war against creation."

If we were able to truly transform our hearts, lifestyles and the public policies ruling our societies, as pope Francis invites us to, then our whole world would be transformed. Poverty and injustice would be swept away and replaced with the conditions for all to flourish.

May we seek to let justice and peace flow, let us work together to care for and protect our common home and all our brothers and sisters throughout the world who are struggling against poverty, injustice and the effects of the climate crisis. “May the Holy Spirit once more hover over the waters and guide us to ‘renew the face of the earth'".

Focus of the Week

Alpha

Stay curious, Try Alpha…

For the explorers, open-minded, still thinking and curious. This gathering will take place on Thursday evenings from 7.30pm on 28 September to 7 December 2023.

All welcome, invite your friends too.

Cockfosters Sharing Groups

In our parish we emphasise the importance of fellowship and we have a number of small sharing groups to support this — Cockfosters Sharing Groups (CSGs).

We believe that a Christian community is strengthened by supporting one another in friendship and prayer.

Sharing our joys and our difficulties helps us to build a strong Christian community.

The purpose of these small groups is to grow in faith through personal sharing of our lives in the light of the scriptures. They are for everyone: singles, couples or divorced, elderly or young and they are made up of 7 to 10 people who meet once every three or four weeks.

Launch evening - Saturday 30 September 6.30 to 8.30pm (cheese and wine provided).
