Christ the King 90th Anniversary

Dear brothers and sisters,

We are celebrating the Solemnity of Christ the King of the universe, a very special feast for our Parish, and for all of us as a community.  This is a good occasion to celebrate and give thanks for this parish, which is the very means that the Lord is using to touch and nourish our faith.

Our Parish will soon be celebrating its 90th birthday, and it is good to mark this anniversary by rejoicing over one full year, from Christ the King feast celebration 2025 to the same next year.  90 years which have witnessed so many people working for this parish to come into being, then to make this place a special place where everyone is able to experience his faith locally. As a matter of fact, since the beginning of the Church, God has always counted on and used men and women to transmit faith from one generation to another and our parish is no exception to this practice.

The parish will be organising a series of events over the year to mark this anniversary, the first one being the Jo Collins and friends’ gig.  This fundraising event is more than just to replenish the building fund of the parish and to try to reduce the financial deficit of the parish, which is already very important and sensible.  But more importantly we can remember that many people before us have worked hard to construct and maintain the buildings and to foster an environment conducive to experience our faith together.  One of our responsibilities is to make sure that this place will help future generations accordingly, the more so in a world where Christian faith is not obvious in our secularised society.  We are also privileged that Jo Collins has accepted to contribute to this first event marking the 90th anniversary as Jo has positively impacted the liturgy of the parish, as well as in many other ways – not to mention Rock – over many decades thanks to her exceptional musical talent.

Throughout this year, the parish will organise events to make memory of the past, celebrate the present and prepare the future.  May Christ the King himself be our guide on this path and give us a grateful heart for what He has given us.  I wish to all of you, brothers and sisters, a very happy feast of Christ the King.
