Newsletter - 06 July 2025
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We are gradually reaching the end of the academic year. On Sunday 6 July, we are already celebrating the Parish’s End of Year Party. Summer, with its warm temperature and hot blazing sun, reminds us that this is a time to stop and to have a break. The year might have been full of activities, duties and responsibilities and whilst running from one occupation to another, we most probably might not have had time to lift up our heads and breathe to assess in which direction we are heading.
A few questions about our activities this year may crop up. What was at stake after all throughout this year? Were the activities fruitful or not? To others? To myself? Were they difficult or light? What needs to change or to improve? Or to let go? Same for our relationships. Many questions may fill our minds during this period of break.
Another reflection would be to question our faith by asking the Lord to shed his light on our lives for us to understand his gaze on us. This may prevent us from undergoing an unhealthy self-centered introspection. Have we noticed any change in our faith or our relationship with God during the year? Was this relationship a priority or not? What were the ideas and preoccupations that filled my mind throughout the year?
Obviously, when we talk of our relationship with God, we think of our religious practice: attendance at church and faithfulness to our prayer commitments. Another thing is to question our relationship with the Lord in the same way as we would question our relationship with a friend or a relative. Our activities might have been very challenging but perhaps have as a result brought us closer to God. Have they brought new questions about my understanding of who God really is? In all cases, summer break can be a good opportunity to shed light on my relationship with God. A review will allow us to face the shortcomings in our lives and to ask the Lord for the grace to amend. As a result we might join Peter when he
answers to the Lord on the seashore “You know everything, you know I love you.”
