PARISH NEWS

Changes at CAFOD

Christ the King Parish is proud to host the Community Volunteer Centre for the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD) for the Westminster Diocese.  Tucked up on the first floor, the staff co-ordinate community outreach and volunteers who help raise money and spread the word about this remarkable agency.  I want to take this opportunity to highlight the retirement of long time Co-ordinator, Tony Sheen, and introduce his replacement, Beata Rozycka.

After working for CAFOD for 17 years Tony is retiring to pursue many interests that have had to be shelved while working full time and to spend more time with his family (including his first grandchild!).   He and Denise will remain part of our parish, and his passion for the vision and work of CAFOD will continue.  He told me, “You can feel helpless in the face of the world’s miseries but supporting our CAFOD partners who are on the ground can move our faith into action.”  We can also let CAFOD gently challenge our own lifestyles by looking at the roots of poverty.

The new Coordinator, Beata Rozycka, previously worked for the Diocesan Youth Ministry based at SPEC in Pinner and is part of Our Lady of Fatima Parish in White City.  She is in the Cockfosters office every Thursday, 9:30-5:00 and welcomes people to drop in and chat.  She is inspired to live out her faith actively through CAFOD and would like to help others do the same. “I look forward to engaging and meeting as many parishioners as possible, supporting you in our joint mission of caring for our common home and brothers and sisters across the globe.”  They are looking for volunteers to help in the office (making calls, helping with the monthly newsletter, input data and social media).  Please drop in or contact her, brozycka@cafod.org.uk

So let us continue to support CAFOD in any way we can – volunteering, giving money, and reading the details about their work in the world.  I was especially moved to read about their support for Caritas Jerusalem who is “on the ground” in Gaza.
